In the Wilderness

Background

In 1990, I was invited to contribute a musical piece to a concert combatting world hunger at the Church of the Brethren Annual Conference in Milwaukee.  I was inspired with an idea for a two-part piece, and sang it with my friend Kim Murray Poli.  Years later, I turned it into an anthem for the La Verne Church of the Brethren Sanctuary Choir.

In the wilderness,
you gave us manna,
holy manna

From the rock,
you drew water,
living water

In our hunger, we were filled
In our thirst, we did drink

Heavens open,
Spirit come

Heavens open,
Spirit upon us
