Background
This version of “Great is Thy Faithfulness” was created so that the music of “Brightest and Best” could be enjoyed with other-than-Epiphany text. I looked for a while to find a suitable text, and was delighted to discover that the words of “Great is thy Faithfulness” — always linked to a 3/4 meter — fit this duple meter tune perfectly. Like the original “Brightest and Best” words by Reginald Heber that flow with such richness, this text offers a similar flow of vivid imagery. My church choir has often sung this piece for Thanksgiving Sunday, but it fits well thoughout the year, and is also at home on programs featuring Americana.
