“Light sweeps in, window to window.Darkness fills this place at the approach of night.
Both to you, Beloved, are alike; Both your presence, mercy, majesty, love.”
Light Sweeps In is the prologue movement from Princeton Motets (And I Saw), a six-movement a cappella cycle on the poetry of Euan Tait, inspired by the Revelations vision: “And I saw a new heaven and a new earth….” For advanced choirs, the piece employs divisi ranging from 4- to 8-parts. Tait’s evocative and moving poems elicit a rich variety of choral textures, lush harmonies, soaring melodies, and illuminative moments.
